🚣 Sea Kayak Rentals – Apostle Islands

We rent both tandem and single sea kayaks to groups who are prepared, certified, and ready to explore the Apostle Islands safely and independently. These are true expedition-ready sea kayaks — stable, durable, and designed for Lake Superior’s real-world backcountry conditions. They’re not flashy, but they’ll get you (and your gear) to camp and back.

🛑 This is not a casual day rental. You must have verifiable experience or complete our training program to rent.

• Polyethylene sea kayak (single or tandem)
• Paddle(s)
• Life jacket(s) (PFDs)
• Spray skirt(s)
• Paddle float
• Bilge pump
• Wetsuit (required – included in price)

We do not include dry bags, camp gear, or extra paddles by default, but they may be available upon request.

📏 Group Size & Kayak Ratio Rules

You may rent as many kayaks as you want, but the ratio must be followed if you intend to add single kayaks and we do not rent only one kayak.

You must have at least as many tandems as you do single kayaks to rent from us.  You can not have more singles than tandems.
You can rent as many tandems as you like, the ratio only comes into play when you are renting single kayaks as well.

📅 Rental Duration and Delivery

• Rental duration: 2–8 days
• Delivery available to Bayfield, Washburn, Cornucopia, and Little Sand Bay ($100 each way)
• Little Sand Bay drop-off is only at the public boat ramp

🚫 Island Restrictions

For safety and compliance, kayak rentals may not travel to these islands:

• Bear Island
• Devil’s Island
• North Twin Island
• Outer Island
• Michigan Island
• Eagle Island

All other islands are allowed as long as your route is approved in advance and follows park regulations.

🧑‍🏫 Safety Requirements

You must either:

1. Complete our in-person kayak safety course ($80/person), OR
2. Submit video proof that each paddler can perform the following rescues:
   • Solo reentry
   • T-rescue
   • Stirrup-assisted reentry

Video must be clear, in deep water, and one per person — not one per group.
Failure to complete these will result in cancellation with 100% refund.

• Trailers are available to rent and carry up to 3 tandems 
• Wetsuits are required and provided (3mm farmer john style)
• We reserve the right to deny rentals for safety reasons
