Assisted Sea Cave Boat Tour
You’ll need at least one person in your group who is willing and able to operate a Lund Tyee fishing boat, which is small enough to access most of the sea caves. You’ll follow our lead—we’re in a separate boat and will guide and assist you throughout the trip.
Born on or after January 1, 1989, and 16 or Older: Must have completed a DNR-approved boating safety course or be accompanied by an adult (18 or older) with a valid boating safety certificate or born before January 1, 1989.
be at least 25 years old to be the driverThis assisted tour is for a single group, with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 passengers. Our boats are designed to navigate tight spaces and give you access to the sea caves that larger boats can’t reach.
If conditions allow, we’ll explore up to three locations:
-
Roman’s Point sea caves
-
Spirit Point sea caves
-
Meyers Beach Sea Caves (optional)
After we train you on boat handling at Roman’s and Spirit Point, and if you demonstrate confidence and skill, you’ll have the option to visit the Meyers Beach Sea Caves on your own. We’ll stay within a half mile for safety, but we won’t accompany you into that final section. It is 100% legal to boat through the Meyers Beach sea caves and youre boat will be outfitted with everything to keep you legal at the Meyers Beach sea caves. If you’re not comfortable going solo, no problem—we’ll stay with you for the entire tour instead.
When the weather won’t allow us to operate on the West side of the Bayfield Peninsula, which is Meyers Beach and Romans Point we then do the tour on the East side of the peninsula in Chequamegon Bay. There we go to the Bono Creek and Houghton Point Sea caves.
Safety & Weather Conditions
Lake Superior is inherently risky. Conditions can change rapidly, especially on the west side of the Bayfield Peninsula (Meyers Beach, Devils Island, Sand Island). Safer, calmer alternatives include Romans Point, Chequamegon Bay, and Basswood Island.
If weather makes the primary sea cave session unsafe, we may:
- Reroute your session to a safer alternate destination.
- Transfer your booking to another reputable outfitter.
- Refund or reschedule only if we cannot offer an alternate cave tour from our listed options.
We do not refund based solely on location changes due to weather. If we can not offer an alternate sea cave session then we will fully refund.
With our small boats, we are able to go into the sea caves on our boat tours. The big boat tours in the Apostle Islands are too large for the sea caves, they don’t go into the sea caves and view from a distance instead. The boat can equipped with 2 paddleboards, so that you can explore the smaller sea caves if you want to.
This tour explores the sea caves and sea stacks of Roman’s Point or the sea caves in Chequamegon Bay. If the conditions are appropriate we go to Roman’s Point, it covers 8 miles and lasts around 2 hours. If the wind is too strong out of the W, N or NE we will launch in Washburn, Wi and boat to the sea caves in Chequamegon Bay
The Roman’s Point sea caves are not the Meyers Beach Sea Caves, they are outside the NPS boundary. You can expect the tour to be very secluded and although there are fewer sea caves than Meyers Beach, you don’t have to deal with the crowds of people in the caves, like you do at Meyers Beach. If the wind is too strong out of the West we move this tour to the smaller sea caves in Chequamegon Bay that have excellent conditions when the wind is out of the West
This tour gives you an opportunity to enjoy the sea caves in seclusion, just you and Lake Superior. The Romans Point tour also has an amazing sunset!
